kyoto/uji

Kyoto and Uji is two of my favorite place in Japan. It was my first time visiting and I did not have any initial expectations.

It is a beautiful place with a lot of temples to visit and even though they were all packed with tourists, it was still a good experience walking through all the shrines.

This is where you wish for love

Walking into the town of Uji, where they specialize in tea and matcha. Matcha mainly I believe. A lot of the stores and restaurants are really local. We found a place for lunch in which we got our own little tatami table and they serve home made udon noodles.

Nakamura Tokichi  is a very well known and famous matcha dessert shop in Japan and in Hong Kong. The line to get a seat is always long at least in Hong Kong. The history of Nakamura Tokichi dates back to year 1874 when it was established.

You walk into a beautiful Japanese garden that leads to the reception of the restaurant. Of course there were people waiting. We left our name and number of people on a piece of paper and they stop the line at 5:30pm and we went just half an hour before they do that. We were lucky. We waited for only around 30 minutes for a table which was shorter than I had expected.

The quality of the dessert lives to its hype. This is also when I fell in love with houjicha flavored ice cream.
