Mykonos
We spent 4 days and 3 nights in dreamy Mykonos. It is filled with stunning architecture, amazing food and welcoming locals. The best way to get around the island is to rent a car as taxi services are limited and overpriced. We stayed at Ornos which is just 10 minutes drive from town. The Villa we stayed at, Carpe Diem, was 10-15 minutes away from all the major destinations in Mykonos.
Our Villa has the view of the Mykonos Town which makes getting up early in the morning worthwhile. We had a friendly and helpful host who was extremely responsive to our requests and gave us great recommendations which made our experience much more memorable.
We went the first week of April, during the off-peak season but a lot of the restaurants were only beginning to open up but we got some pretty amazing food experiences nonetheless.
Of course if you know me, I am a huge foodie and I have loads of recommendations for you. Our first meal was at Obati Italian Restaurant. You must be thinking, you're in Mykonos, why are you having Italian food? Turns out many restaurants in Mykonos are Italian influenced and all the dishes have a unique Mediterranean twist to it.
This is Obati Italian Restaurant, the food was so good we visited them twice during our trip. They serve Italian cuisine with a Mykonian and Mediterranean twist. All their pizzas were made to order in a in house wood oven.
This beautiful al-fresco, minimal and industrial yet elegant restaurant is Kalita Restaurant located in Mykonos town. The romantic and hidden location makes you feel like you're dining on a private island. We were served with warm bread upon arrival and to start, we ordered truffle gnocchi and brioche toast with truffle cream, 65 degree poached egg dip. Followed by main dishes, we had sea bass with vegetable tagliatelle, two braised beef, and lamp chops. It was phenomenal.
Another great dinner spot would be Karavaki Restaurant. Trust me and make a reservation for sunset hour and you can enjoy the sunset and the view of the whole of Mykonos Town from above.
We all wished we tried this breakfast place earlier located "the entrance" of our route back to our villa, located in Ornos, Bowl. An Australian couple owned breakfast spot with everything served in bowls! It has great open dining space and super friendly staff! Most importantly, delicious food! Here we have freddo cappuccino, avocado toast with everything but bagel seasoning was in particular unforgettable and heavenly, yogurt bowl with fresh local fruits and honey and breakfast bowl!
On our last day, we spent our last meal in Old Port, an amazing quiet area with great restaurant choice and great view of Mykonos Town. We sat down at Roca Cookery, a cozy and homey restaurant with delicious food. We arrived with many families already enjoying their Easter weekend meal. We sat near a table with a big family and we began talking and asked for some local recommendation on food choices. Some must-tries according to the locals are the fried shrimp, fried calamari to start; the seafood, the Mykonian Pasta and the Truffle Risotto which was not photographed because the boys were too hungry they just started eating it!
I'll be back...
